Paris 2024 Paralympics Days One-Two (Catch-Up)

The opening day of the Paralympics saw a rapid start with a total of 22 medal events across Para Cycling Track, Para Swimming, Para Table Tennis and Para Taekwondo.

Day 1


The first Gold of the games was won in the Para Cycling Track Women's C4 -5 500m Time Trial as Caroline Groot (NED) crossed ahead of Marie Patouillet (FRA) and Kate O'Brien (CAN) while GB's Kadeena Cox sadly crashed and ended up classed in sixth. A new World/Paralympic Record time of 3:41.692 for Xiaomei Wang (CHN) to storm to Gold ahead of GB's Daphne Shrager and Flurina Rigling (SUI) in the Women's C1-3 3000m Individual Pursuit. 

The Men's B 4000m Individual Pursuit saw Tristan Bangma (Pilot-Patrick Bos) (NED) seal Gold ahead of GB's Stephen Bate (Pilot-Christopher Latham) while Lorenzo Bernard (Pilot- Davide Plebani) (ITA) claimed Bronze. A first Overlap of the Games in the Men's C1 3000m Individual Pursuit as Zhangyu Li (CHN) took Gold ahead of team-mate Weicong Liang (CHN) while Ricardo Ten Argiles (ESP) collected Bronze

A perfect start for the hosts in the Pool as Ugo Didier (FRA) sealed Gold in the Men's 400m Freestyle Para Swimming ahead of Simone Barlaam (ITA) and Brenden Hall (AUS). The Women's saw Zsofia Konkoly (HUN) touch for Gold ahead of Lakeisha Patterson (AUS) and Vittoria Bianco (ITA) while GB's Toni Shaw finished in fifth. 

The Men's 100m Backstroke S1 saw Kamil Otowski (POL) storm to Gold ahead of Anton Kol (UKR) and Francesco Bettella (ITA). The S2 final was won by Gabriel Geraldo Dos Santos Araujo (BRA) as finished ahead of Vladimir Danilenko (NPA) and Alberto Caroly Abarza Diaz (CHI).

Gold to Pin Xiu Yip (SGP) in the Women's 100m Backstroke S2 as she touched just ahead of Haidee Viviana Aceves Perez (MEX) and Angela Procida (ITA). The Men's 100m Butterfly S14 saw Alexander Hillhouse (DEN) set a new Paralympic Record time of 54.61 in finishing ahead of GB's William Ellard with Gabriel Bandeira (BRA) collecting Bronze while GB's Cameron Vearncombe finished eighth. 

History made in the Women's 100m Butterfly S14 as Poppy Maskill won GB'S first Gold of the Games in a World Record time of 1:03.00 as she finished ahead of Yui Lam Chan (HKG) and Valeriia Shabalina (NPA)GB duo Olivia Newman-Baronius and Louise Fiddes finished fourth and eighth. The Men's 50m Breaststroke SB3 saw Takayuki Suzuki (JPN) touch ahead of Efrem Morelli (ITA) and Miguel Luque (ESP). 

A Paralympic Record time of 32.59 saw Yuyan Jiang (CHN) win Gold in the Women's 50m Freestyle S6 ahead of Ellie Marks (USA) and Anna Hontar (UKR). The Men's 50m Freestyle S10 saw Thomas Gallagher (AUS) touch ahead of Phelipe Andrews Melo Rodrigues (BRA) with Rowan Crothers (AUS) collecting Bronze

Yi Chen (CHN) set a new World Record time of 27.10 in the Women's 50m Freestyle S10 as she finished ahead of Christie Raleigh-Crossley (USA) and Aurelie Rivard (CAN). The Men's 100m Butterfly S13 saw Ihar Boki (NPA) win Gold ahead of Alex Portal (FRA) and Enrique Alhambra Mollar (ESP). The Women's 100m Butterfly S13 Gold was won by Carlotta Gilli (ITA) as she finished ahead of Grace Nuhfer (USA) and Muslima Odilova (UZB).

A new Paralympic Record time of 2:25.99 for Francesco Bocciardo (ITA) in the Men's 200m Freestyle S5 as he finished ahead of Kirill Pulver (NPA) and Oleksandr Komarov (UKR). Joy for GB'S Tully Kearney as she won the Women's 200m Freestyle S5 ahead of Iryna Poida (UKR) and Monica Boggioni (ITA)


The Women's Doubles WD14 Para Table Tennis saw Bronzes for Norway (Aida Husic Dahlen/Merethe Tveiten) and GB's Bly Twomey/Felicity Pickard after 3-2/3-1 defeats to Germany (Stephanie Grebe/Juliane Wolfe) and China (Wenjuan Huang/Yucheng Jin) who meet in the final later in the Games.

 
A busy session in Para Taekwondo began with Leonor Angelica Espinoza Carranza (PER) winning Gold in the Women's K44-47kg after a 10-4 victory over Ziyodakhon Isakova (UZB) while Khwansuda Phuangkitcha (THA) and Zakia Khudadadi (RPT) collected Bronzes.

The Men's K44 -58kg saw Asaf Yasur (ISR) defeat Ali Can Ozcan (TUR) 19-12 while Sabir Zeynalov (AZE) and Xiao Xiang Wen (TPE) claimed 12-4/16-8 wins over Thanwa Kaenkham (THA) and Joel Martin Villalobos (ESP). 

Gold in the Women's K44 -52KG was won by Surenjav Ulambayar (MGL) after a 5-2 victory over Zahra Rahimi (IRI) while Meryem Betul Cavdar (TUR) and Ana Japaridze (GEO) secured Bronzes. 

Day 2


The second day began with the Para Athletics -Women's Discus Throw F55 as Erica Maria Castano Salazar (COL) outthrew Feixia Dong (CHN) and Rosa Maria Guerrero Cazares (MEX). A new World Record time of 14:48.85 in the Men's 5000m T11 as Julio Cesar Agripino dos Santos (BRA) stormed to victory over Kenya Karasawa (JPN) and Yeltsin Jacques (BRA). 

The Women's Long Jump T11 saw Asila Mirzayorova (UZB) set a new Paralympic Record of 5.24m as she outjumped Guohua Zhou (CHN) and Alba Garcia Falagan (ESP). Gold in the Women's Shot Put F41 was won by Raoula Tlili (TUN) as she outthrew Kubaro Khakimova (UZB) and Antonella Ruiz Diaz (ARG). 

A new World Record distance of 63.81 saw Jose Gregorio Lemos Rivas (COL) win the Men's Javelin Throw F38 after outthrowing Vladyslav Bilyi (UKR) and Dongquan An (CHN). The Women's 100m T35 saw double joy for China with Xia Zhou finishing ahead of Qianqian Guo while Preethi Pal (IND) collected BronzeThe evening session in the Stade De France opened with a new World Record distance of 29m in the Women's Club Throw F32 by Maroua Ibrahimi (TUN) as she outthrew Parastoo Habibi (IRI) and Giovanna Boscolo Castilho Goncalv (BRA). 

The Men's Shot Put F55 saw Ruzhdi Ruzhdi (BUL) win Gold while Zafar Zaker (IRI) sealed Silver and Lech Stoltman (POL) collected Bronze. A new World Record distance of 6.85m in the Men's Long Jump T11 as Dongdong Di (CHN) outjumped compatriot Shichang Chen (CHN) with Joan Munar Martinez (ESP) claiming Bronze. The Men's 400m T52 saw Maxime Carabin (BEL) win Gold ahead of Japanese duo Tomoki Sato and Tomoya Ito. 

Ricardo Gomes de Mendonca (BRA) won the Men's 100m T37 by finishing ahead of Saptoyogo Purnomo (INA) and Andrei Vdovin (NPA). The Men's 100m T47 saw Petrucio Ferreira dos Santos BRA) finish ahead of Korban Best (USA) and Aymane El Haddaoui (MAR). A new Paralympic Record time of 25.86 in the Women's 200m T37 for Xiaoyan Wen (CHN) she finished ahead of Natalia Kobzar (UKR) and Fenfen Jiang (CHN). The session ended with Kudratillokhon Marfkhujaev (UZB) winning the Men's Shot Put T37 ahead of Ahmed Ben Moslah (TUN) and Tolibhoy Yuldashev (UZB). 

A new Paralympic Record of 249.7 in the Women's 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 Para Shooting saw Avani Lekhara (IND) win Gold ahead of Yunri Lee (KOR) and Mona Agarwal (IND). The Men's event saw Jeongdu Jo (KOR) outshoot Manish Narwal (IND) and Chao Yang (CHN). A new Paralympic Record of 253.3 in the Mixed 10m Air Rifle Standing SH2 saw Francek Gorazd Tirsek (SLO) outshoot Tanguy de la Forest (FRA) and Huntae Seo (KOR).


The Para Table Tennis Women's Doubles WD5 saw China (Jing Liu/Juan Xue) seal a 3-1 win over Republic of Korea (Su Yeon Seo/Kiyu Yoon) while Brazil (Catia Oliveira/Joyce Oliveira) and Thailand (Dararat Asayut/Chilchitparyak Bootwansirina) claimed Bronzes. The Women's Doubles WD14 saw China (Wenjuan Huang/Yucheng Jin) secure Gold after a 3-1 win over Germany (Stephanie Grebe/Juliane Wolf) who took Silver

The Men's Doubles M8 semis saw Turkey (Abdullah Ozturk/Nesim Turan) and Thailand (Wanchai Chaiwut/Yuttajak Glinbancheun) collect Bronzes after defeats to China (Ningning Cao/Panfeng Feng) and Germany (Valentin Baus/Thomas Schmidberger) who advanced to the final. The Men's Doubles MD4 saw France (Fabien Lamirault/Julien Michaud) and Republic of Korea (Soo Yong Cha/Jim Cheol Park) collect Bronzes after defeats to Slovakia (Peter Lovas/Jan Riapos) and Republic of Korea (Yeongjin Jang/Sung Joo Park) who advanced to the final. 


The Men's C4-5 1000m Time Trial Para Cycling Track Gold was won by Korey Boddington (AUS) as he finished ahead of GB's Blaine Hunt and Alfonso Cabello Llamas (ESP) while GB's Jody Cundy and Archie Atkinson placed in fourth and fifth. Double joy for Australia in the Women's C4 3000m Time Trial as Emily Petricola won Gold ahead of Anna Grace Taylor while Keely Shaw (CAN) took Bronze

The Men's C2 3000m Individual Pursuit saw Alexandre Leaute (FRA) win Gold ahead of Ewoud Vromant (BEL) while GB's Matthew Robertson collected Bronze. Double joy for GB in the Men's C3 3000m Individual Pursuit as Jaco van Gass won Gold ahead of Fin Graham while Alexandre Hayward (CAN) collected Bronze. Gold for GB's Lizzi Jordan in the Women's B 1000m Time Trial as she finished ahead of Jessica Gallagher (AUS) and fellow Brit Sophie Unwin


A new Paralympic Record time of 1:07.77 for Oleksandr Komarov (UKR) in the Men's 100m Freestyle S5 with Jinchang Guo (CHN) taking Silver and Kiril Pulver (NPA) collecting Bronze. The Women's 100m Freestyle S5 saw a second Gold of the Games for GB's Tully Kearney as she finished ahead of Iryna Poida (UKR) and Monica Boggioni (ITA). 

The Men's 100m Freestyle S4 saw Gold won by Ami Omer Dadaon (ISR) as he finished ahead of Takayuki Suzuki (JPN) and Angel de Jesus Camacho Ramirez (MEX). A new World Record time of 2:37.31 for Hang Yong (CHN) in the Men's 200m Individual Medley as he finished ahead of Nelson Crispin Corzo (COL) and Talisson Henrique Glock (BRA) while GB's Bruce Dee finished fourth. 

GB's Maisie Summers-Newton stormed to Gold in the Women's 200m Individual Medley SM6 as she finished ahead of Ellie Marks (USA) and Daomin Liu (CHN) while GB's Grace Harvey finished fourth. David Kratochvil (CZE) eased to Gold in the Men's 400m Freestyle S11 ahead of Rogier Dorsman (NED) and Uchu Tomita (JPN)

The Women's 400m Freestyle S11 saw Liesette Bruinsma (NED) win Gold ahead of Xiaotong  Zhang (CHN) and Daria Lukianenko (NPA) while GB's Eliza Humphrey finished in eighth. The Men's 100m Breaststroke SB9 Gold was won by Stefano Raimondi (ITA) ahead of Hector Denayer (FRA) and Maurice Wetekam (GER). The Women's 100m Breaststroke SB9 saw Chantalle Zijderveld (NED) finish ahead of Meng Zhang (CHN) and Lisa Kruger (NED)

Double joy for the Neutral Paralympic Athletes as Ihar Boki won the Men's 100m Backstroke S13 ahead of Vladimir Sotnikov while Alex Portal (FRA) collected BronzeThe Women's 100m Backstroke S13 saw Gia Pergolini (USA) touch ahead of Roisin Ni Riain (IRL) and Carlotta Gilli (ITA). Gold for Andrei Kalina (NPA) in the Men's 100m Breaststroke SB8 as he finished ahead of Guanglong Yang (CHN) and Carlos Daniel Serrano Zarate (COL)

The Women's 100m Breaststroke SB8 saw Anastasiya Dmytriv Dmytirv (ESP) win Gold ahead of GB's Brock Whiston while Viktoriia Ischchiulova (NPA) collected Bronze. A new World Record time of 2:14.96 in the Mixed 4x50m Freestyle Relay 20 Points Total for China (Qiuping Peng, Weiyi Yuan, Yuyan Jiang, Jincheng Guo) as the finished ahead of USA (Leanne Smith, Abbas Karimi, Zach Shattuck, Ellie Marks) and Brazil (Patricia Pereira dos Santos, Lidia Vieira da Cruz, Daniel Xavier Mendes, Talisson Henrique Glock). 

The Women's K44-65kg Para Taekwondo saw Gold won by Ana Carolina Silva de Moura (BRA) after a 13-7 victory over Djelika Diallo (FRA) while Christina Gkentou (GRE) and Lisa Kjaer (DEN) collected Bronzes by securing 14-4/6-2 wins over Yinan Yao (CHN) and Marie Antoinnette Dassi (CMR). 

Imammadin Khalilov (AZE) eased to Gold in the Men's K44-70kg after a 15-2 success over Fatih Celik (TUR) while Juan Eduardo Samorano (ARG) and Juan Diego Garcia Lopez (MEX) collected Bronzes by securing 6-5/5-3 wins over Javokhir Alikulov (UZB) and Shunsuke Kudo (JPN). 

The Women's K44 -57kg saw Yujie Li (CHN) storm to a 11-0 win over Gamze Gurdal (TUR) while Silvana Mayara Cardoso Fernandes (BRA) and Palesha Goverdhan (NEP) collected Bronzes after 28-3/15-8 victories over Kamilya Dosmalova (KAZ) and Marija Micev (SRB). Gold in the Men's K44 -63kg for Mahmut Bozteke (TUR) after a 9-7 win over Bolor-Erdene Ganbat (MGL) while Ayoub Adouich (MAR) and Antonino Bossolo (ITA) collected Bronzes with WDR/18-13 successes over Nathan Torquato (BRA) and Adnan Milad (ISR).
