Paris 2024 Days Five-Seven (Catch-Up)

 A superb 16 days of action at the Paris 2024 Olympics continues with days five to seven.

Day 5

Joy for the hosts in the Women's Individual Triathlon as Cassandre Beaugrand (FRA) crossed ahead of Julie Derron (SWI) who sealed Silver and GB's Beth Potter who scooped Bronze while fellow Brit Georgia Taylor-Brown finished sixth. A frantic end to the Men's Individual saw GB's Alex Yee scoop Gold from Hayden Wilde (NZL) while Leo Bergere (FRA) claimed Bronze


The Women's Synchronised 10m Platform Diving saw China (Yuxi Chen, Hongchan Quan) storm to Gold ahead of People's Republic of Korea (Jin Mi Jo, Mi Rae Kim) and GB duo Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulsen. 


The Men's Quadruple Sculls Rowing saw Netherlands (Lennart van Lierop, Finn Florijin, Tone Wieten, Koen Mestsemakers) row to Gold ahead of Italy (Luca Chiumento, Kuca Rambaldi, Andrea Panizza, Giancomo Gentili) and Poland (Dominik Czaja, Mateusz Biskup, Miroslaw Zietarski, Fabian Baranski) while GB (Thomas Barras, Callum Dixon, Matthew Haywood, Graeme Thomas) finished fourth. 

Joy for GB (Lauren Henry, Hannah Scott, Lola Anderson, Georgina Brayshaw) in the Women's Quadruple Sculls as they finished ahead of Netherlands (Laila Youssifou, Bente Paulis, Roose de Jong, Tessa Dullemans) and Germany (Maren Voelz, Tabea Schendekehl, Leonie Menzel, Pia Greiten). 

The Women's Park Cycling BMX Freestyle saw Yawen Deng (CHN) win Gold ahead of Perris Benegas (USA) and Natalya Diehm (AUS). The Men's Park Final Gold was won by Jose Torres Gil (ARG) as he crossed ahead of GB's Kieran Darren Reilly and Anthony JeanJean (FRA)


The Women's Trap Shooting saw Adriana Ruano Oliva (GUA) outshoot Silvana Maria Stanco (ITA) and Penny Smith (AUS)


The Women's -70kg Judo saw Gold won by Barbara Matic (CRO) after a 1-0 win over Miriam Butkereit (GER) while Gabriella Willems (BEL) and Michaela Polleres (ESP) collected Bronzes with 1-0/10-0 victories over Sanne van Dijke (NED) and Ai Tsunoda Roustant (ESP).  

Gold in the Men's -90kg for Lasha Bekauri (GEO) after a 10-1 win over Sanshiro Murao (JPN) while Theodoros Tseldis (GRE) and Maxime-Gael Ngayap Hambou (FRA) who collected Bronzes after 10-10/1-0 wins over Tristani Mosakhkisvili (ESP) and Rafael Macedo (BRA)


The Women's Canoe Single Slalom saw Jessica Fox (AUS) win Gold ahead of Elena Lilik (GER) who scooped Silver while Evy Leibfarth (USA) collected Bronze



Gold for Shinnosuke Oka in the Men's All Around Artistic Gymnastics ahead of Chinese duo Boheng Zhang and Ruoteng Xiao while GB's Joe Fraser and Jake Jarman finished fifth and seventh. 


The Men's Sabre Team Fencing saw Republic of Korea seal Gold with a 45-41 win over Hungary while France eased to Bronze with a 45-25 defeat of Iran.


The Women's 100m Freestyle Swimming saw Sarah Sjoestroem (SWE) touch for Gold ahead of Torri Huske (USA) and Siobhan Haughey (HKG). Home favourite Leon Marchand (FRA) set a new Olympic Record time of 1:51.21 in the Men's 200m Butterfly as he finished ahead of Kristof Milak (HUN) and Ilya Kharun (CAN)

An Olympic Record time of 15:30.02 in the Women's 1500m Freestyle for Katie Ledecky (USA) as she stormed to Gold ahead of Anastasiia Kirpichnikova (FRA) and Isabel Gose (GER). Leon Marchand (FRA) set yet another new Olympic Record with a time of 2:05.85 in the Men's 200m Breaststroke as he finished ahead of Zac Stubblety-Cook (AUS) and Caspar Corbeau (NED). A new World Record time of 46.40 in the Men's 100m Freestyle for Zhanle Pan (CHN) as he finished ahead of Kyle Chalmers (AUS) and David Popovici (ROU).

Day 6

The day began with the Men's 20km Race Walk Athletics as Brian Pintado (ECU) finished ahead of Caio Bonfim (BRA) and Alvaro Martin (ESP). The Women's 20km Race Walk saw Jiayu Yang (CHN) finish ahead of Maria Perez (ESP) and Jemima Montag (AUS)


Gold for Yukun Liu (CHN) in the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions Shooting as he outshot Serhiy Kulish (UKR) and Swapni Kusale (IND)


 
The Women's Double Sculls Rowing saw New Zealand (Brooke Francis/ Lucy Spoors) cross ahead of Romania (Ancuta Bodnar/ Simona Radis) and GB's (Mathilda Hodgkins Byrne/ Rebecca Wilde). Gold for Romania (Andrei Sebastian Cornea/Marian Florian Enache) in the Men's Double Sculls as they finished ahead of Netherlands (Melvin Twellaar/ Stef Broenink) and Ireland (Daire Lynch/ Phillip Doyle).

The Women's Four saw Netherlands (Marloes Oldenburg, Hermijntje Drenth, Tinka Offereins, Benthe Boosntra) claim Gold ahead of GB (Helen Glover, Esme Booth, Sam Redgrave, Rebecca Shorten) and New Zealand (Jackie Gowler, Phoebe Spoors, Davina Waddy, Kerri Williams). The Men's Four saw USA (Nick Mead, Justin Best, Michael Grady, Liam Corrigan) win Gold ahead of New Zealand (Ollie Maclean, Logan Ullrich, Tom Murray, Matt Macdonald) and GB (Oliver Wilkes, David Ambler, Matt Aldridge, Freddie Dawson)

Gold for Zelym Kotsoiev (AZE) in the Men's 100kg Judo after a 10-1 victory over Ilia Sulamanidze (GEO) while Muzaffarbek Turoboyev (UZB) and Peter Paltchik (ISR) won Bronzes after 1-0/10-0 successes against Nikoloz Sherazadishvili (ESP) and Daniel Eich (SUI). 

The Women's 78kg saw Alice Bellandi (ITA) ease to an 11-0 win over Indar Lanir (ISR) while Patricia Sampaio (POR) and Ma Zhenzao (CHN) claimed Bronzes after 10-0/1-0 wins over Rika Takayama (JPN) and Anna-Maria Wagner (GER)


The Men's Kayak Single Canoe Slalom saw Giovanni de Gennaro (ITA) win Gold ahead of Titouan Castryck (FRA) and Pau Echaniz (ESP). 


Gold for Simone Biles (USA) in the Women's All-Around Artistic Gymnastics as she outscored Rebeca Andrade (BRA) and fellow American Sunisa Lee while GB duo Alice Kinsella and Georgia-Mae Fenton placed 12th and 18th. 



The Women's Foil Fencing saw USA win Gold after a 45-39 victory over Italy while Japan edged a 33-32 success over Canada for Bronze



A new Olympic Record time of 2:03.03 for Summer McIntosh (CAN) in the Women's 200m Butterfly as she finished ahead of Regan Smith (USA) and Yufei Zhang (CHN) while GB's Laura Stephens placed eighth. The Men's 200m Backstroke saw Hubert Kos (HUN) win Gold ahead of Apostolos Christou (GRE) and Roman Mityukov (SUI) 

The Women's 200m Breaststroke saw Kate Douglass (USA) seal Gold ahead of Tatjana Smith (RSA) and Tes Schouten (NED). An Olympic Record time of 7.38.08 in the Women's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay for Australia (Mollie O'Callaghan, Lani Pallister, Brianna Throssell, Ariane Titmus) as they finished ahead of USA (Claire Weinstein, Paige Madden, Katie Ledecky, Erin Gemmell) and China (Junxuan Yang, Bingjie Li, Chutong Ge, Yaxin Liu) while GB (Freya Colbert, Abbie Wood, Freya Anderson, Lucy Hope finished fifth. 


Day 7

The 50m Rifle 3 Positions Womens Shooting Gold was won by Chiara Leone (SUI) as she outshot Sagen Maddalena (USA) who scooped Silver while Qiongyue Zhang (CHN) claimed Bronze


In the Men's Synchronised 3m Springboard, China (Daoyi Long, Zongyuan Wang) won Gold ahead of Mexico (Juan Manuel Celaya Hernandez, Osmar Olvera Ibarra) who took Silver while GB duo Anthony Harding and Jack Laugher claimed Bronze

The Men's Pairs saw Croatia (Martin & Valent Sinkovic) seal Gold ahead of GB's (Oliver Wynne-Griffith, Tom George) scoop Silver with Switzerland (Roman Roeoesli, Andrin Gulich) taking Bronze In the Women's Pairs, Netherlands (Ymkje Clevering, Veronique Meester) stormed to Gold ahead of Romania (Ioana Vrinceanu, Roxana Anghel) who took Silver while Australia (Jes Morrison, Annabelle McIntyre) collected Bronze

The Lightweight Men's Double Sculls saw Ireland (Fintan McCarthy, Paul O'Donovan) take Gold ahead of Italy (Stefano Oppo, Gabriel Soares) who scooped Silver while Greece ( Antonios Papalonstantinou, Petros Gkaidatzis) collected Bronze

Due to delays in this blog, the results side reverted to sports rather than days for the listings.
