Closing Ceremony

The Closing Ceremony had the theme 'Harmonious Cacophony and it truly delivered with a mix of lights and technicolour music some from classic video games that created an amazing close to the Games.

Alike the Olympic Closing Ceremony, the Parade of Athletes was Flagbearers only with GB represented by Boccia GOLD medallist David Smith as they entered an arena floor filled with the Athletes of the competing countries.

The centre of the arena floor featured a mini papier-mache type city being created with each flagbearer placing a disc on a mirrored Sky Tree which was raised as the parade section came to an end.

One of the main aims of the theme was to show that the many differences in the world today have more strengths than weaknesses with a focus on the We are the 15% message.

The ceremony continued with the flag raisings and final speeches before the handover to Paris for 2024 with a very poignant ending as the Eiffel Tower featured a CGI blade in place of one of its traditional four legs.

A great month across the Olympics and Paralympics and sadly a delay to this blog due to a new job reducing writing time but hopefully all will be well when the Winter games begin in Beijing in February!
