London 2012 Day 5

Day 5 got off to a great start with swimmers Fran Halsall and Amy Smith both qualifying for the semis of the 100m freestyle and both in with a shout of a medal.

Over at Lords they saw a shock as GB's Amy Oliver beat the World Champion Deepika Kumar (Ind) 6-2 but sadly lost in the last 32 by a socre of 7-1 to Ika Yuliana Rochmawati of Indonesia.

Gold for Great Britain in the Rowing as Helen Glover and Helen Stanning cruise home in 7.27.13 to win the Women's Pair and win GB's first gold of 2012 and the first Women's Rowing gold in Olympic history for GB which was very well deserved ahead of Australia and New Zealand.

The Women's Quad went next but in a field with massive Olympic experience they faltered and came in sixth with Ukraine taking the gold followed by Germany in second and USA in third.

Back in the medals for the Men's Eight after an amazing race in which they led for a period they secured a bronze with Germany and Canada taking gold and silver near the end.
