Tokyo 2020 Day 12

Day 12 saw a transition of events with some events debuting in this blog on a day that saw 20 medal events in ten sports.

Medals 


The Duet GOLD was won by the pairing of Svetlana Kolesnichenko/Svetlana Romashina (ROC) ahead of Zuechan Huang/Wenyan Sun (CHN) who took SILVER while Marta Fiedina/Anastasiya Savchuk (UKR) collected BRONZE



The Women's 400m Hurdles saw double joy for USA with GOLD for Sydney McLoughlin in a WORLD RECORD time of 51.46 ahead of Dalilah Muhammad who took SILVER while Femke Bol (NED) claimed BRONZE

In the Women's 300m Steeplechase, GOLD was won by Peruth Chemutai (UGA) ahead of Courtney Frerichs (USA) who scooped SILVER and Hyvin Kiyeng (KEN) who collected BRONZE. GB's Elizabeth Bird finished in ninth.

The Men's Hammer GOLD went to Wojciech Nowicki (POL) as he out-threw Elvind Henriksen (NOR) who took SILVER while Pawel Fajdek (POL) claimed BRONZE. GB's Nick Miller finished in sixth. 

Double joy for Kenya in the Men's 800m as Emmanuel Kipkurul Korir took GOLD ahead of Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich who claimed SILVER while Patryk Dobek (POL) claimed BRONZE

The Men's 200m GOLD was won by Andre De Grasse (CAN) ahead of double joy for USA as Kenneth Bednarek took SILVER and Noah Lyles claimed BRONZE


The Women's Fly (48-51kg) BRONZES were collected by Hsiao-Wen Huang (TPE) and Tsukimi Namiki (JPN) as they lost out to Stoyka Zhelyazkova (BUL) and Buse Naz Cakiroglu (TUR) who will meet in the final. 

The Women's Welter (64-69kg) BRONZES were collected by Oshae Jones (USA) and Lovlina Borgohain (IND) as they lost out to Busenaz Surmeneli (TUR) and Hong Gu (CHN) who will meet in the final. 

In the Men's Super Heavy +91kg, BRONZES were claimed by GB's Frazer Clarke and Kamshybek Kunkabayev (KAZ) as they lost out to Bakhodir Jalolov (UZB) and Richard Torrez Jr (USA). 

The Men's Light Heavy (75-81kg) GOLD was won by Arlen Lopez (CUB) as he defeated GB's Benjamin Whittaker who took SILVER.  


The Men's Team Pursuit saw a WORLD RECORD for ITALY (Simone Consonni, Flippo Ganna, Francesco Lamon and Johnathan Milan) who won GOLD. SILVER went to Denmark (Lasse Norman Hansen, Niklas Larsen, Frederik Madsen and Rasmus Pedersen) while Australia (Kelland O'Brien, Sam Welsford, Leigh Howard and Lucas Plapp) collected BRONZE


GOLD for GB in the Jumping Individual as Ben Maher won ahead of Peder Fredriksen (SWE) who took SILVER while Maikel Van Der Vleuten (NED) collected BRONZE. GB's Scott Brash and Harry Charles were seventh and DNF. 



The Women's Marathon Swimming GOLD was won by Ana Marcela Cunha (BRA) as she finished ahead of Sharon Van Rouwendaal (NED) who took SILVER while Kareena Lee (AUS) collected BRONZE. GB's Alice Dearing finished in 19th. 



The Women's Two Person Dinghy 470 saw GOLD for GB pair Eildh McIntyre and Hannah Mills with Mills becoming the most decorated Sailor in Olympic history. SILVER went to Poland (Agnieska Skrzypoulec/Jolanta Ogar) while France (Camille Lecointre/Aloise Retornaz) collected BRONZE

In the Men's Two Person Dinghy 470, GOLD was won by Australia (Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan) ahead of Sweden (Anton Dahlberg/Fredrik Bergstrom ) who scooped SILVER and Spain (Jordi Xammar/Nicolas Rodriguez Garcia-Paz) collected BRONZE

A teen trio on the podium in the Women's Park saw double joy for the hosts Japan as Sakura Yosozumi (age 19) won GOLD ahead of Kokona Hiraki (age 12) who took SILVER while GB's Sky Brown collected BRONZE to become GB's youngest ever medallist at the age of 13. 


The Men's +109kg saw a WORLD RECORD as Lasha Talakhadze (GEO) stormed to GOLD with a total of 488. SILVER went to Ali Davoudi (IRI) while Man Asad (SYR) collected BRONZE




The Men's Greco-Roman 67kg GOLD was won by Mohammadreza Geraei (IRI) as he defeated Parviz Nasibov (UKR) who took SILVER. BRONZES went to Mohamed Ibrahim Elsayed (EGY) and Frank Staebler (GER) as they overcame Ramaz Zoidze (GEO) and Artem Surkov (ROC).

In the Men's Greco-Roman 87kg, GOLD went to Zhan Beleniuk (UKR) as he defeated Viktor Lorincz (HUN) who scooped SILVER. BRONZES were claimed by Zurabi Datunashvili (SRB) and Maksymillian Denis Kudla (GER) as they overcame Mohamed Metwally (EGY) and Ivan Huklek (CRO). 

The Women's Freestyle 62kg GOLD was won by Yukako Kawai (JPN) as she defeated Aisuluu Tynbekova (KGZ) who took SILVER. BRONZES went to Mustafa Taybe Yusein (BUL) and Iryna Koliadenko (UKR) as they overcame Anastasija Grigorjeva (LAT) and Liubov Ovcharova (ROC)




Team GB News


Laura Muir reached the Women's 1500m final while Andrew Pozzi advanced to the Men's 110m Hurdles final. 
Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson reached the Women's 10m platform semi-finals, qualifying in seventh and 10th, respectively.

The Women's battle to defend their title came to a crushing end as Netherlands gained revenge for the RIO 2016 final with a 5-1 win in the semi-final meaning GB now face India in a battle for BRONZE
