Tokyo 2020 Day Nine

Day Nine sees the halfway mark of the games passed with another busy day of 27 medal events of which 25 gold medal events due to two in the Boxing for Bronzes only.


Medals


The Men's Floor saw GOLD won by Artem Dolgopyat (ISR) ahead of Rayderley Zapata (ESP) who took SILVER and Ruoteng Xiao (CHN) who collected BRONZE

In the Women's Vault, Rebeca Andrade (BRA) took GOLD ahead of Mykayla Skinner (USA) who scooped SILVER while Seojeong Yeo (KOR) claimed BRONZE

An historic GOLD for GB's Max Whitlock as he successfully defended his title ahead of Chih Kai Lee (TPE) who took SILVER and Kazuma Kaya (JPN) who collected BRONZE

In the Women's Uneven Bars, GOLD was won by Nina Derwael (BEL) ahead of Anastasiia Iliankova (ROC) who scooped SILVER while Sunisa Lee (USA) collected BRONZE


The Women's Shot Put GOLD was won by Lijiao Gong (CHN) ahead of Raven Saunders (USA) who took SILVER while Valerie Adams (NZL) collected BRONZE

The Men's High Jump saw GOLD won by Essa Mutaz Barshim (QAT) and Gianmarco Tamberi (ITA) after both jumped a season's best 2.37 with no failures while Maksim Bedasekau (BLR) took BRONZE

History in the Women's Triple Jump as Yulimar Rojas (VEN) stormed to GOLD by setting a new WORLD RECORD of 15.37m toppling that of Inessa Kravets' (UKR) 15.50 set back in Aug 1995. Patricia Mamona (POR) scooped SILVER while Ana Peleteiro (ESP) collected BRONZE

In the Men's 100m, GOLD was won by Lamont Marcell Jacobs (ITA) as he finished ahead of Fred Kerley (USA) who took SILVER and Andre De Grasse (SUI) who claimed BRONZE. GB's Zharnel Hughes failed to place due to a false start disqualification. 


The Women's Singles saw Yu Fei Chen (CHN) win GOLD after a 2-1 victory over Tzu-Ying Tai (TPE) who took SILVER while Sindhu Pursarla (IND) collected BRONZE after a 2-0 win over Bing Jiao He (CHN). 



The Men's Welter (63-69KG) final takes place later in the week as GB's Pat McCormack will face Roniel Iglesias (CUB) after they defeated Aidan Walsh (IRL) and Andrei Zamkovoi (ROC) who collect BRONZE.

The Men's Light-Heavy (75-81kg) final also takes place later in the week as GB's as Benjamin Whittaker faces Arlen Lopez (CUB) as they defeated Imam Khataev (ROC) and Loren Alfonso Dominguez (AZE) who collected BRONZE


GOLD for GB's Charlotte Worthington in the Women's Park as she finished ahead of Hannah Roberts (USA) who took SILVER while Nikita Ducarroz (SUI) collected BRONZE

In the Men's Park, GOLD for Logan Martin (AUS) as he finished ahead of Daniel Dhers (VEN) who scooped SILVER and GB's Declan Brooks who collected BRONZE


The Women's 3m Springboard GOLD was won by Tingmao Shi (CHN) ahead of team-mate Han Wang (CHN) who took SILVER while Krysta Palmer (USA) collected BRONZE. 

The Men's Foil Team GOLD was won by France as they secured a 45-28 victory over ROC who took SILVER while USA collected BRONZE after a 45-31 win over Japan.



The Men's Individual Stroke Play saw GOLD go to Xander Schauffele (USA) as he finished ahead of Rory Sabbatini (SVK) who took SILVER. The play off for BRONZE saw C T Pan (TPE) collected the medal while GB duo Paul Casey and Tommy Fleetwood finished in fourth and 16th. 



In the Men's One Person Dinghy Laser, GOLD went to Matt Wearn (AUS) as he finished ahead of Tonci Stipanovic (CRO) who took SILVER while Hermann Tomasgaard (NOR) collected BRONZE

The Women's One Person Dinghy Laser Radial saw GOLD won by Josefin Olsson (SWE) as she finished ahead of Emma Plasschaert (BEL) who took SILVER while Vaslleia Karachaliou (GRE) collected BRONZE. GB's Alison Young finished in eighth. 

The Men's 50m Freestyle saw an Olympic Record for Caeleb Dressel (USA) as he won GOLD in a time of 21.07 ahead of Florent Manaudou (FRA) who took SILVER and Bruno Fratus (BRA) who collected BRONZE. GB's Ben Proud finished in joint fifth. 

The Women's 50m Freestyle also saw an Olympic Record as Emma McKeon (AUS) won GOLD in a time of 23.81 ahead of Sarah Sjoestroem (SWE) who took SILVER. BRONZE went to Pernille Blume (DEN). 

The Men's 1500m Freestyle saw GOLD won by Robert Finke (USA) as he finished ahead of Mykhailo Romanchuk (UKR) who took SILVER while Florian Wellbrock (GER) collected BRONZE. GB's Daniel Jervis finished in fifth. 

In the Women's 4x100m Medley Relay, Australia (Kaylee McKeown, Chelsea Hodges, Emma McKeon and Cate Campbell) won GOLD with an Olympic Record time of 3:51.60. SILVER went to USA (Regan Smith, Lydia Jacoby, Torri Huske and Abbey Weitzeil) while Canada (Kylie Masse, Sydney Pickrem, Margaret Macneil and Penny Oleksiak) collected BRONZE

The Men's 4x100m Medley Relay saw a WORLD RECORD time of 3:26.78 as USA (Ryan Murphy, Michael Andrew, Caeleb Dressel and Zach Apple) won GOLD. GB's quartet of Luke Greenbank, Adam Peaty, James Guy and Duncan Scott) took SILVER ahead of Italy (Thomas Ceccon, Nicolo Martinenghi, Federico Burdisso and Alessandro Miressi) who collected BRONZE.
 

The Women's Doubles final saw Czech pair Barbora Krejcikova/Katerina Siniakova take GOLD with a 7-5 6-1 win over Belinda Bencic/Viktorija Golubic (SUI) who took SILVER.

In the Men's Singles final, Alexander Zverev (GER) took GOLD with a 6-3 6-1 win over Karen Khachanov (ROC) who collected SILVER.

The Mixed Doubles final saw a ROC battle with the pair of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova/Andrey Rublev winning 6-3 6-7 13-11 against Elena Vesnina/Aslan Karatsev who took SILVER

The Women's 76kg GOLD was won by Nelsi Patricia Dajomes Barrera (ECU) ahead of Katherine Elizabeth Nye (USA) who scooped SILVER while Aremi Fuentes Zavala (MEX) collected BRONZE



Team GB News

The eventers are well placed for team and individual success with world number one Oliver Townend, Laura Collett and Tom McEwen leading the team event ahead of Australia and France.


The Men's hopes were ended at the quarter final stage in a 3-1 loss to India
