Tokyo 2020 Day Three

Day Three became the busiest day so far with 21 medal events across 14 different sports and for Team GB it was a Magic Monday with five medals, three of them GOLD.

Medals

The first medal of the day for GB came in the Men's Triathlon as Alex Yee scooped SILVER as he finished behind Kristian Blummenfelt (NOR) who crossed for GOLD. BRONZE was collected by Hayden Wilde (NZL) while GB's Johnathan Brownlee finished in fifth. 


The first GOLD of the games for GB came in the pool as Adam Peaty retained his title in the Men's 100m Breaststroke finishing ahead of Arno Kamminga (NED) who scooped SILVER and Nicolo Martinenghi (ITA) who collected the BRONZE while James Wilby finished sixth for GB. 

The Women's 100m Butterfly saw Margaret Macneil (CAN) narrowly win GOLD with a 0.05s gap ahead of Yufei Zhang (CHN) who claimed SILVER while Emma McKeon (AUS) took the BRONZE

A surprise in the Women's 400m Freestyle as Ariane Titmus (AUS) take the GOLD ahead of defending champion Katie Ledecky (USA) who claimed SILVER. The BRONZE was collected by Bingjie LI (CHN). 

The final medal event of day three in the pool saw the USA (Caeleb Dressel, Blake Pieroni, Bowen Becker & Zach Apple) take GOLD in the Men's 4x100m Freestyle Relay ahead of Italy (Alessandro Miressi, Thomas Ceccon, Lorenzo Zazzeri & Manuel Frigo) who claimed SILVER. The BRONZE went to Australia (Matthew Temple, Zac Incerti, Alexander Graham & Kyle Chalmers).


The Men's Team saw the trio of Deok Je Kim, Woojin Kim & Jinhyek Oh (KOR) scoop GOLD with a 6-0 win over the trio of Yu-Cheng, Chih-Chun Tang & Chun-Weng Wei (TPE) who took SILVER. BRONZE went to Takaharu Furukawa, Yuki Kawata & Hiroki Mutu (JPN) as they won 5-4 against Gijs Broeksma, Sjef Van Den Berg & Steve Wijiler (NED).


The Men's Team saw GOLD go to the quartet of Denis Abliazin, David Belyavskiy, Artur Dalaloyan & Nikita Nagornyy (ROC) with a total of 262.500 ahead of Daiki Hashimoto, Kuzuma Kaya, Takeru Kitazono & Wataru Tanigawa (JPN) who took SILVER with 262.397. BRONZE was collected by Chaopan Lin, Wei Sun, Ruoteng Xiao & Jingyuan Zou (CHN) who scored 261.894. GB narrowly missed out on a medal with the quartet of Max Whitlock, Joe Fraser, James Hall & Gianni Regini Moran scoring 255.760 in fourth.


The Men's Canoe saw Benjamin Savsek (SLO) take the GOLD ahead of Lukas Rohan (CZE) who collected SILVER and Sideris Tasiadis (GER) who claimed BRONZE. GB's Adam Burgess finished in fourth. 


A third GB GOLD of the day as Tom Pidcock became the first Olympic champion in the Men's Cross Country ahead of Mathias Flueckiger (SUI) who scooped SILVER and David Serrano Valero (ESP) who collected BRONZE

A second GOLD of the day for GB as the pair of Tom Daley/Matty Lee won the Men's Synchronised 10m Platform ahead of Yuan Cao/Aisen Chen (CHN) who collected SILVER and Aleksandr Bondar/Viktor Minibaev (ROC) who claimed BRONZE



The Men's Foil Individual saw GOLD won by Ka Long Cheung (CHN) as he defeated Daniele Garozzo (ITA) 15-11. BRONZE went to Alexander Choupenitch (CZE) with a 15-8 win over Takahiro Shikine (JPN). 

The Women's Sabre Individual GOLD was won by Sofia Pozdniakova (ROC) as she defeated fellow Russian Sofya Velikaya 15-11. BRONZE went to Manon Brunet (FRA) after a 15-6 win against Anna Marton (HUN)


The Men's -73kg saw joy for the hosts as Shohei Ono (JPN) won GOLD by defeating Lasha Shavdatuashvili (GEO) who scooped SILVER. BRONZES were collected by Changrim An (KOR) and Tsogtbaatar Tsend-Ochir (MGL) as they defeated Rustam Orujov (AZE) and Arthur Margelidon (CAN). 

In the Women's -57kg, Nora Gjakova (KOS) won GOLD as she defeated Sarah Leonie Cysique (FRA) who took SILVER. BRONZES went to Jessica Klimkat (CAN) and Tsukasa Yoshida (JPN) after wins over Kaja Kajzer (SLO) and Eteri Liparteliani (GEO). 


The Women's Skeet saw GOLD won by Amber English (USA) with an Olympic Record score of 56 ahead of Diana Bacosi (ITA) who scored 55 for SILVER and Meng Wei (CHN) who collected BRONZE with a score of 46.

In the Men's Skeet, Vincent Hancock secured a double for the USA with his own Olympic Record of 59 to take GOLD. SILVER went to Jesper Hansen (DEN) with a score of 55 and BRONZE was collected by Abdullah Alrashidi (KUW) who scored 46.


A truly historic podium in the Women's Street with the 13-year old Momijii Nishiya (JPN) taking GOLD ahead of fellow 13-year old Rayssa Neal (BRA) who scooped SILVER. BRONZE went to 16-year old Funa Nakayama (JPN). 


The Mixed Doubles saw Shiwen Liu/Zin Wu (CHN) win GOLD with a 4-3 win against Mima Ito/Jun Mizutani (JPN) who took SILVER. BRONZE was collected by Ching I Cheng/Yun Ju Lin (TPE) after a 4-0 win over Jia Nan Yuan/Emmanuel Lebesson (FRA).


The Men's -80kg saw Maksim Khramtcov (ROC) win GOLD with a 20-9 victory over Saleh Elsharabaty (JOR). BRONZES went to Self Eissa (EGY) and Toni Kanaet (CRO) after wins over Richard Andre Ordemann (NOR) and Nikita Rafalovich (UZB).

GB's Lauren Willams had to settle for SILVER in the Women's -67kg as she lose 25-22 to Matea Jelic (CRO) who won GOLD. BRONZES went to Hedaya Malak (EGY) and Ruth Gbagbi (CIV) after wins over Paige McPherson (USA) and Milena Titoneli (BRA). 


The Women's 55kg saw GOLD go to Hildlyn Diaz (PHI) with an Olympic Record of 224 ahead of Qiuyun Liao (CHN) who scored 223 for SILVER and Zulfiya Chinshanlo (KAZ) who scored 213 to collect BRONZE

Limited GB news here due to the mass success in the Medals section...

The Men's team made a perfect start with wins over Canada and Japan, the latter a 34-0 success. 


The Women continued their title defence with a 4-1 win over South Africa while the Men won 3-1 against Canada. 



Alongside the medal success in the pool, Duncan Scott and Kathleen Dawson both qualified for the finals of the Men's 200m Freestyle and Women's 100m Backstroke.
