Tokyo 2020 Day Seven

Day Seven saw some new medal events on the schedule - Athletics, Badminton, Cycling BMX racing,  Tennis and Trampoline Gymnastics which means there is 21 overall across 13 sports and for GB's it was the Joy of Six on Day Seven.

Medals


The Women's Individual saw GOLD won by San An (KOR) as she defeated Elena Osipova (ROC). BRONZE went to Lucilla Boari (ITA) as she won 7-1 over Mackenzie Brown (USA). 



The Men's 10000m GOLD was won by Selemon Barega (ETH) ahead of Joshua Cheptegei (UGA) who took SILVER and Jacob Kiplimo (UGA) who collected BRONZE. GB's Marc Scott finished 14th while Sam Atkin didn't finish. 




The Mixed Doubles saw GOLD go to Yi Lyu Wang/Dong Ping Huang (CHN) as they defeated fellow Chinese pair Si Wei Zheng/Ya Qiong Huang 2-1. BRONZE went to Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino (JPN) as they won 2-0 against Chun Man Tang/Ying Suet Tse (HKG). 


The Men's Kayak GOLD was won by Jiri Prskavec (CZE) as he finished ahead of Jakub Grigar (SVK) who scooped SILVER and Hannes Aigner (GER) who collected BRONZE. GB's Bradley Forbes-Cryans finished sixth.


The Men's event saw Niek Kimmann (NED) race to GOLD ahead of GB's Kye Whyte who scooper SILVER and the first ever BMX medal for GB. BRONZE was collected by Carlos Alberto Yepes Ramirez (COL). 

An historic GOLD in the Women's event as GB's Bethany Shriever won ahead of Mariana Pajon (COL) who took SILVER while Merel Smulders (NED) collected BRONZE


The Men's Epée Team GOLD was won by the hosts Japan as they secured a 45-36 win over ROC. BRONZE went to China as they won 45-42 against Republic of Korea.




In the Men's +100kg, GOLD for Lukas Krpalek (CZE) as he defeated Guram Tushishvili (GEO) who scooped SILVER. BRONZES went to Tamerlan Bashaev (ROC) and Teddy Riner (FRA) as they overcame Yakiv Khammo (UKR) and Hisayoshi Harasawa (JPN). 

The Womens+78kg saw GOLD won by Akira Sone (JPN) as she defeated Idalys Ortiz (CUB) who scooped SILVER. BRONZES went to Romane Dicko (FRA) and Iryna Kindzerska (AZE) as they defeated Kayra Sayit (TUR) and Shiyan Xu (CHN).


The Women's Single Sculls saw GOLD won by Emma Twigg (NZL) with an Olympic Best time of 7:13.97 ahead of Hanna Prakatsen (ROC) who scooped SILVER and Magdalena Lobnig (AUT) who collected BRONZE. GB's Vicky Thornley finished in fourth. 

In the Men's Single Sculls, Stefanos Ntouskos (GRE) won GOLD with an Olympic Best time of 6:40.65 ahead of Kjetil Borch (NOR) who took SILVER while Damir Martin (CRO) collected BRONZE

The Women's Eight saw GOLD won by Canada as they finished ahead of New Zealand who took SILVER while China collected BRONZE.  In the Men's Eight, GOLD was won by New Zealand as they finished ahead of Germany who took SILVER while GB won BRONZE. 


The Women's 25m Pistol GOLD went to Vitalina Batsarashkina (ROC) as she won a Shoot-off 4-1 against Kim Minjung (KOR) who took SILVER and it came after the two shared an Olympic Record score of 38. BRONZE went to Jlaruixuan Xiao (CHN) who scored 29.





The Women's 200m Breaststroke GOLD was won by Tatjana Schoenmaker (RSA) with a WORLD RECORD time of 2:18.95. Lilly King (USA) took SILVER ahead of fellow American Annie Lazor who collected BRONZE. GB duo Molly Renshaw and Abbie Wood finished in sixth and seventh.

In the Men's 200m Backstroke, Evgeny Rylov (ROC) won GOLD with an Olympic Record time of 1:53.27 as he finished ahead of Ryan Murphy (USA) who took SILVER while GB's Luke Greenback collected BRONZE.

The Women's 100m Freestyle saw Emma McKeon (AUS) win GOLD with an Olympic Record time of 51.96 as she finished ahead of Siobhan Bernadetter Haughey (HKG) who took SILVER and Cate Campbell (AUS) who collected BRONZE.

In the Men's 200m Individual Medley, Shun Wang (CHN) won GOLD ahead of GB's Duncan Scott who scooped SILVER ahead of Jeremy Desplanches (SUI) who collected BRONZE. 



The Men's Singles saw an all-Chinese final with Long Ma winning 4-2 against Zhendong Fan who took SILVER while Dimtrij Ovtcharov (GER) collected BRONZE after a 4-3 win over Yun Ju Lin (TPE). 




The Men's Doubles saw the pairing of Marcus Daniell/Michael Venus (NZL) seal GOLD with a 7-6, 6-2 win against Austin Krajicek/Tennys Sandgren (USA) who took SILVER. BRONZE was collected by Nikola Mektic/Mate Pavic (CRO) as they defeated fellow Croats Marin Cilic/Ivan Dodig, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6.


The Women's event saw double joy for China as Xueying Zhu won GOLD ahead of Lingling Liu. BRONZE was collected by GB's Bryony Page. 









Team GB News 

Ben Whittaker and Pat McCormack are both guaranteed medals after winning their quarter-finals. 



The Women's team won 21-12 against USA to advance into the semi-finals which take place on day eight. 




 Despair for the Women's team as they lost out 4-3 to Australia in extra time having conceded a late leveller in normal time and missing a penalty in extra time.



 The Men will face India in the last eight after a 2-2 draw with Belgium
